Man City Identify Perfect Benjamin Mendy Replacement

Man City are reportedly interested in signing Ajax left-back Nicolas Tagliafico.

Pep Guardiola had been keen on bringing the Argentina international to the Etihad during the summer transfer window, but his £35million valuation put Man City off.

Another problem for City was the failure to offload Oleksandr Zinchenko in time to make a move for Tagliafico.

However, Guardiola, according to The Sun, has not given up in his pursuit of the 28-year-old and will return for him in January.

With less than two years left on his contract in Amsterdam, Ajax could accept a bid as low as £20m from City for Tagliafico, who is expected to replace Benjamin Mendy in Pep’s starting XI.

Mendy has started all three of City’s Premier League matches this season but continues to struggle.

There are also question marks over Mendy’s long-term fitness having struggled with two serious knee injuries since joining City for £52m from Monaco in 2017.

Tagliafico has been a consistent performer for Ajax and was a regular starter in the team that reached the Champions League semi-finals last year.
