Sergio Aguero may just be on his way to take a major pay cut if he wants a new deal at Manchester City.
The Argentine is out of contract at the end of the season, but would like to stay for another 12 months.
Yet although Aguero’s representatives have been trying to get the club to commit, no talks have taken place.
Aguero earns around £260,000 a week – and his injury problems over the last two years mean the striker's hopes could rest on him taking a near 50 per cent drop.
It is a dilemma for the club’s all-time leading goalscorer, who knows that as a free agent, he could pick up close to his current salary if he moved on.
Yet Pep Guardiola’s side are unlikely to agree an extension without a hefty cut, have previously chopped the wage of older stars like they did for Yaya Toure, when he was offered a 12 month extension.
