Manchester City have rejected an offer from Barcelona over a possible swap deal for Nelson Semedo that would include Joao Cancelo in the summer transfer window.
Semedo’s current deal is until 2022 but talks about a new contract have stalled and Barca are now keen to sell the 26-year-old this summer before his value decreases significantly next season.
The right-back is had been offered to City by his agent Jorge Mendes as part of a possible swap deal that would see Joao Cancelo join Barca.
However, Spanish publication Marca claim City aren’t interested in doing business, as they don’t deem the swap deal to be clear enough.
City were also offered Semedo in the January window and they also declined then.
The report claims that at no point have the Sky Blues entered into discussions to sign the Portuguese.
Semedo is currently valued by Barca at around £36million (€40m).
As for Cancelo, he arrived at City from Juventus for £60m last summer for a fee of £34m.
However, Pep Guardiola’s side would not only face losing money if they swapped Cancelo for Semedo, because of the player’s current value, but they would also be getting an older player.
Thus, according to the report, Semedo is now closer to securing a move to Serie A than the Premier League.
