Reigning Serie A champions, SSC Napoli, are reportedly interested in signing Leicester City midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi.
The Super Eagles defensive midfielder will be offered a way out of relegated Leicester City as they continue the sale of players who do not want to play in the Championship.
If a transfer does happen, it will see Wilfred Ndidi reunite with fellow Super Eagles teammate and Napoli’s top scorer, Victor Osimhen, whose future is also up in the air this summer.
With loan signing, Tanguy Ndombele possibly returning to parent club, Tottenham Hotspur, Napoli will look to fill the midfield gap left by the Frenchman and their sights are set on the Leicester City man.

Napoli could revive Ndidi’s career
Just three seasons ago, Leicester City were serious challengers for the top four and they were very close to playing Champions League football again. They had a team of very talented players and in the heart of their midfield was Wilfred Ndidi.
He was hailed as one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League as well as one of the best in Europe. He was at times seen as one of the best Nigerians to ever play in the English top flight. If a big club wanted his services at the time, they would have had to pay top dollar to purchase him.
Now, fortunes have changed for himself and Leicester City. His phenomenal form that has made him one of Africa’s best exports in Europe is nowhere to be seen and the Leicester CIty team he plays for has also suffered a terrible dropoff in form. This season was a disastrous one for Ndidi and Leicester City as the club ended a remarkable eight year stay in the Premier League with relegation to the Championship.
His poor form at club level has also affected his performances for the national team as he has not looked like the dominant force in the Super Eagles midfield for a long time.
Right now, Ndidi’s stock has never been lower and Napoli may provide an opportunity to revive his career and recapture his best form. He is only 27 years of age and has enough time to go back to playing his best football if he is in a winning environment like Napoli.
Napoli are looking to poach another relegated midfielder in Ndidi, just like they did for Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa back in the summer of 2021/2022 after Fulham’s relegation the season prior. It is certainly a risk but the Super Eagles midfielder has shown great form in the past and it may well pay off for the Scudetto holders.
With one year left on his contract as well as Leicester’s relegation, it is probably the best resolution for both parties that a sale is sanctioned this summer, ending his seven year stay at the club that included 237 appearances an an FA Cup trophy.
