Jesse Lingard could return to Manchester United's bench after Nice reportedly pulled out of a loan swoop.
The England midfielder has barely featured for the Red Devils this season.
And Lingard looked set to leave on loan this month in a bid for first-team football.
But now it seems the Ligue 1 side have gone cold on the Red Devil star.
Lingard and Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are in a tug-of-war.
The 28-year-old is desperate to play more having not appeared in a single Premier League game.
But Solskjaer is keen to keep hold of him with a busy schedule ahead in the Premier League, FA Cup and Europa League.
United exercised their one-year option to keep hold of Lingard until 2022.
Lingard would have plenty of suitors if the Red Devils are willing to let him go.
