18-year-old midfielder Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, who plies his trade with Internazionale in the Italian Serie A, has won his first title with the European giants.
Akinsanmiro received a medal as Inter Milan lifted the Coppa Italia title on Wednesday night after defeating Fiorentina 2 – 1 in the final which was played at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, the capital of Italy.
It was a fortuitous event for the teenager, who was playing in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) with Remo Stars until January 2023. The young midfielder was promoted to the senior team some days before Inter’s win against Fiorentina.
Akinsamiro Receives Congratulatory Message from Remo Stars
The young midfielder made headlines in January 2023 when he signed a four-year contract with the Nerazzurri that was worth an undisclosed fee.

Akinsamiro, who is a product of Remo Stars’ Academy, had just made his senior professional debut in the 2020/21 season. Following the move, he was added to an illustrious list of players like former Super Eagles left-back Taiye Taiwo and AFCON 2013-winning centre-back Elderson Echiejile to sign for a European club directly from an NPFL club.
He was sent to Inter’s U-19 side after his move was confirmed but after providing three assists and putting up solid performances in 12 Primavera 1 appearances, he was promoted to the first team for the rest of the 2022/23 Serie A season.
He was included in the squad that travelled to Rome to take on Fiorentina in the 2023 Coppa Italia final. Though he played no part in the match, Inter would run out 2 -1 winners thanks to a brace from 2018 FIFA World Cup winner Lautaro Martinez after their opponents had opened the scoring in the third minute.
He joins former Nigeria Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins in winning the title with Inter Milan.
Remo Stars, who are currently preparing for the NPFL Super Six after finishing second in the NPFL Group A table, sent him a congratulatory message via their social media handles. It read: “Congratulations, Ebenezer Akinsanmiro on your first cup triumph with Inter. Our academy star boy has picked up the Coppa Italia medal five months after making his move to Italy. Proud of you.”

Akinsanmiro Will Soon Show What He is Made of, Remo Stars General Manager
The young midfielder, who many in the Nigerian football news media believe will be making his Nigeria national football team debut soon, is slowly living up to the standards set for him by Remo Stars’ General Manager Michael Onikute after his move to Italy was made official.
Onikute claimed that Akinsanmiro will quickly make his debut for the Serie A side’s senior team because he has incredible qualities similar to Manchester City talisman, Kevin De Bruyne. Onikute was speaking to FCInter News when he made this comment.
“In a few years, you will understand what Inter saw in Ebenezer because he can reach the top level,” Onikute said. “It won’t be easy for him, but we have guided him well, we have educated him well in our you system here in Nigeria, so much so that he earned the attention of the Nerazzurri.
“Now he will further his footballing education with the Nerazzurri, and can reach the top level of world football.”
