Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is confident that Victor Osimhen will wear the club's jersey unless something ‘special' happens.

Reigning Serie A Champions Napoli have finally launched their new kit for the 2023/2024 season.

They will head into the new campaign looking to retain the Serie A title as well as go beyond their UEFA Champions League quarter-final finish of last campaign and go on a deeper run.

As Napoli prepare for another challenging campaign, the future of Osimhen has been a hot topic surrounding the club. Many expected the Nigerian forward to be sold for a mammoth fee after his exploits last season, but the latest comments from the Napoli president hint at something different.

Napoli's official Osimhen statement after the launch

“SSC Napoli, in collaboration with EA7, are unveiling their new Home and Away kits for the 2023/24 season. It marks the beginning of a new era for Napoli and the foundations on which it is based are the club’s strong bond with the city of Naples and the presence of Napoli fans worldwide,” a statement to the press read.

“This was wonderfully represented by the spontaneous parties which saw the streets of important international cities painted and draped in blue on the occasion of the club’s third Serie A title.

“The club acts as a bridge between the passion for the team, nurtured in the city of Naples, and the millions of fans of all ages scattered across all continents, who pass the love of the club between generations.”

Osimhen's future is still a hot topic

Going into the new season, one of the biggest questions surrounding Gil Azzurri is the future of their star striker Osimhen.

The Super Eagles forward is one of the most sought-after players in world football at the moment with some of the biggest clubs in Europe, such as Paris Saint Germain, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, to name a few, linked with the player.

There is a possibility that Osimhen may move clubs this summer, but at the same time, Napoli want him to stay with the club.

This sentiment was expressed by Napoli's president Aurelio De Laurenitis at the launch of the new Napoli kit. He also added that if the 24-year-old is to leave the club, an “indecent” offer will have to come in for him.

“Osimhen will absolutely wear this new jersey,” he said.

“If a more than indecent offer were to come in, then we’d get over it and would be able to find other talents as we did with Kvaratskhelia and Osimhen. Don’t worry, here there is the Azzurri passion that enflames our hearts.”

With 31 goals in 38 games last season, Osimhen was the club's top scorer as well as the top scorer in Serie A with 26 goals.

He was also selected as the best striker in Serie A and became the highest-scoring African player in his history, surpassing former Super Eagles forward Obafemi Martins, Samuel Eto'o and George Weah, the previous record holder.
