The announcement came on a Sunday in August, and with it Raphael Onyedika closed four seasons at Club Brugge. Eintracht Frankfurt confirmed on 2 August 2026 that the Super Eagles midfielder had signed until June 2031. He is only the second Nigerian to play for the club after Jay-Jay Okocha, as the Bundesliga's official website pointed out.

From Midtjylland to Frankfurt
FC Ebedei was the first stop.
He spent three years at the academy from 2016 before crossing to FC Midtjylland's youth set-up in 2019, and the Danish club loaned him to FC Fredericia for the 2020/21 season, where he made 28 appearances and scored three times in the second tier before forcing his way into the first team. Club Brugge paid Midtjylland €5m for him in August 2022, the Voice of Nigeria reported.
Brugge got their money's worth. Sporza counted 183 matches, nine goals and six assists over four seasons. Two league titles followed, in 2024 and 2026. So did the Belgian Cup in 2025. He also played 24 Champions League games, scoring twice in the competition last term.
Sport Bild put Frankfurt's initial outlay at around €9m, with bonuses that could take it to €10m. Brugge are reported to keep 5 per cent of any future sale. “In recent years, he has been a regular starter and has won numerous titles in Belgium,” said Markus Krösche, the club's board member for sport.
Adi Hütter is back for a second spell as head coach. He started the Nigerian in the 11-0 DFB-Pokal win at fifth-tier SC St Tönis. Soccernet.ng logged a 9.1 SofaScore rating for him that night. By 7 October, Africa Soccer counted four Bundesliga starts and 360 minutes. No goal, no assist, three yellow cards. That is the ledger of a screening midfielder, which is exactly the job Frankfurt bought him to do.
Raphael Onyedika salary: what has been published
Frankfurt's statement gave the contract length and a quote from Krösche. It said nothing about wages.
One figure does circulate. Afrik-Foot put his Brugge salary at roughly €680,000 a year. The same outlet suggested it would at least double in Germany, without saying where either number came from. Treat it as an estimate. The weekly sum of £11,000 that appeared on earlier versions of this page is gone. Nobody could trace it.

Older versions of this profile, like many player-wealth sites, quoted a range of $2m to $7m.
No reliable net worth figure for Raphael Onyedika exists. He has never disclosed his assets. No audited estimate has been published, and none of the outlets that reported his move to Germany offered one. Market valuations are a different thing altogether: Transfermarkt valued him at €13m in March 2023, according to the Voice of Nigeria, but that number describes what a club might pay for his registration, not what he owns, and the €9m Frankfurt paid went to Brugge rather than into the player's account. Anyone quoting a precise figure is guessing.
Super Eagles career: two AFCONs and a new cycle
His first cap came on 27 September 2022, off the bench for Frank Onyeka in a 2-1 friendly defeat by Algeria.
José Peseiro named him in the 25-man squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d'Ivoire, where Nigeria finished runners-up. Pan Africa Football later described his outing against Uganda in Morocco as his tournament debut.
That night in Fez, on 30 December 2025, changed his standing. With Uganda down to ten men, he scored twice in four minutes, both set up by Samuel Chukwueze. Nigeria won 3-1 and he was named Man of the Match. “Onyedika has been one of our best players and most of the time, he doesn't get the hype he deserves,” Victor Osimhen said afterwards. Nigeria went out to Morocco on penalties in the semi-final, then beat Egypt in a shoot-out for third place, which sent Onyedika back to Belgium with a bronze medal, two tournament goals and a reputation far bigger than the one he had taken to Morocco.
Eric Chelle kept him in his 24-man list on 17 September 2026 for the opening block of AFCON qualifiers and the friendly in Russia, Pulse Sports reported, with Onyedika now listed as an Eintracht Frankfurt player. He played against Guinea-Bissau, having recently shaken off a shoulder problem. Frankfurt and the NFF then agreed to release him early. He missed the 3-3 draw in Nizhny Novgorod on 6 October.
That matters for Nigeria. A Bundesliga starter in the anchor role gives Chelle a settled option alongside Wilfred Ndidi as a new qualifying campaign begins.
