Liverpool are looking to tie Virgil van Dijk down at Anfield with a new contract as soon as possible and former Premier League defender Danny Mills has told Jurgen Klopp to make it a priority.
The defender still has three years left on the five-year contract he penned when he signed.
But Football Insider report that the club are keen on bumping his wages to past £200,000-a-week.
That is an increase on the £125,000-a-week wages he is currently on, including a £6m bonus on signing, a further £5m loyalty bonus and then a £4m bonus when he has played 150 Liverpool matches.
And ex- Manchester City star Mills reckons Van Dijk is the club’s rock.
Mills said: “It is absolutely vital.
“To have him there for that length of time means Liverpool do not have to worry about their defence – they would have him there for the next four or five seasons.
“He is their rock and they can build everything around that. They have a great keeper, a great centre-half and two good young full-backs.
