Manchester United are chosen to remain silent over the extension of Odion Ighalo‘s loan, with the Nigerian set to leave the club today (Sunday).
According to MEN Sport, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are still optimistic about keeping the 30-year-old for the remainder of the rescheduled Premier League season.
But United have so far been unable to make a breakthrough in the talks with his Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua, and his deal expires today (May 31st).
As it stands, the former Watford striker will technically cease to become a United player and may have trained with his teammates for the final time.
United's players were in on Saturday but aren't expected at their Carrington training base today.
With all fixtures suspended and now re-arranged to recommence on June 17th, it leaves Ighalo out in the cold.
The Red Devils brought in the striker as cover for the injured Marcus Rashford.
Despite Rashford's subsequent recovery, however, United had been keen to keep Ighalo though were relaxed about the possibility of losing the ex-Super Eagles striker.
United sources have told the MEN that they will issue an update on Ighalo in due course. It's possible that the club could negotiate an extension.
