Victor Osimhen remains Nigeria’s Golden boy at this moment, and he continues to prove his worth in games for Super Eagles and for his club side, Napoli.

The Napoli striker is Jose Peseiro’s first-choice striker and has been able to reward the manager with some good performances in the past.

The striker scored his first AFCON goal in the opening game of the 2023 edition against Equatorial Guinea.

In the 38 minutes of the game, he equalized the score with a stunning header.

Victor Osimhen scored twice in the 3-2 win over Sierra Leone to help Nigeria qualify for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire last June.

Last year, he became just the third Super Eagle player to score at least four goals in a game – Nigeria’s 10-0 win over Sao Tome and Principe – after Elkana Onyeali and legendary Rasheed Yekini. Osimhen's most recent hatrick in a 6-0 thrashing of Sao Tome and Principe now takes the forward to 20 goals in a Super Eagles' jersey.

Since making his international debut for the 2013 AFCON, we take a look at how many goals Victor Osimhen has scored for Nigeria.

Victor Osimhen has an impressive goal ratio of 0.65, meaning he has at least a goal in every two games for the Super Eagles.

After his first goal against Ukraine, Victor Osimhen went ahead to score against Benin, Lesotho, and Sierra Leone – taking his tally to five goals in 10 games.

Post-COVID, Victor Osimhen has been explosive in the Super Eagles shirt. The 24-year-old has scored 12 times.

After the final 2023 AFCON Qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe in Uyo, the lowly rated team is the international team that Osimhen has scored most against during his career – he has netted seventimes. In addition, he has four goals against Sierra Leone as well.

Victor Osimhen has scored three times against Lesotho, twice versus Cape Verde, and has scored once against Ukraine, Benin Republic, Liberia, and the Central African Republic.

In a defining moment of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, the striker left an indelible mark by scoring his inaugural goal in the Super Eagles' opening game against Equatorial Guinea.

This pivotal achievement not only showcased the player's prowess and ability to deliver under pressure but also set the tone for what would be a memorable journey in the prestigious continental competition.

Although Victor Osimhen made his international debut for Nigeria in June 2017, he did not open his international account until September 2019 against Ukraine in a friendly match played in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Victor Osimhen’s first competitive goal for the Super Eagles came against Benin in an Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier played in Uyo in November 2021.

In just 30 matches played so far, the former Nigeria U17 World Cup winner has scored 21 goals.

Where does Osimhen rank among the Super Eagles’ top scorers?

Without any doubt, Victor Osimhen’s proficiency in front of goal has helped him move into the top three Super Eagles goalscorers ever.

The 24-year-old's 21 goals have been scored in 30 games has put him on course to become the all-time highest scorer later in the future barring any unforeseen circumstances.

The former Lille forward is 16 goals away from equaling Nigeria’s all-time record held by Yekini. The iconic legendary striker scored 37 goals from 62 games played between 1983 to 1998 with his record has been standing for 28 years.

Victor Osimhen’s return shows he has the capacity to set his own record and become the Nation’s all-time record goalscorer. It remains to be seen if the Napoli man will be able to achieve that feat but all things point towards the likelihood of that happening.
