John Obi Mikel, a former midfielder for the Super Eagles of Nigeria and English club Chelsea, says he hopes Napoli forward Victor Osimhen will ‘one day’ join his old side.
The 2013 AFCON winner stated in an episode of The Obi One podcast that Osimhen has all the tools to succeed in the Premier League.
The ex-Nigeria international backed the Series A current best striker to succeed in the Premier League.
He said Osimhen is the type of striker Premier League clubs want.
“I think he [Victor Osimhen] does slot seamlessly into the Premier League. He got the tools to be a success in England,” he said.
“When I look back at him a few years ago, I would say ‘no.’ But now watching him last season and watching him this season, I would say definitely.
Osimhen would ‘slot right in'
“He would come into the Premier League, and he would slot right in. He would get you goals, he would run behind defenders, and he would stretch the team.
“And I think this is probably what when you look at a lot of the teams now in the Premier League, that’s what they’re looking for.
“A striker who can run. Who wants to run behind the defenders because then it helps your team. Doesn’t it? He stretches the defenders, the game becomes open, and then you can create chances. And I think that’s what Victor [Osimhen] would definitely give you.
“I hope you come to Chelsea. But from the noises that I hear, he is a big United. But I really hope he comes to Chelsea.”
Victor Osimhen has continued his impressive goal-scoring form of last season for Napoli and Nigeria into the current 2023/24 campaign.
He has scored six goals in ten games for Napoli across all competitions this season, and has also guided the Super Eagles of Nigeria into the AFCON tournament in January 2024 finishing as the top scorer in the AFCON qualifiers.

While his dedication for Napoli is unwavering, it is yet to be confirmed if Osimhen will remain at the club next season after what has happened between the player and the club's TikTok video saga in the last few weeks.
The player though, in time past, has not hidden his admiration to play in the Premier League, and will one day in the course of his career decide to finally achieve his dream of playing in England.
The question is, will Osimhen listen to his compatriot Mikel Obi and sign for Chelsea or will it be Man United who gets his signature? Time will tell.
