Romelu Lukaku is poised to sign a long-term contract with Chelsea after his old club offered to meet Inter Milan's £98m asking price to take him back to Stamford Bridge.
The deal will smash Chelsea’s transfer record set by Kai Havertz’s £72m move in 2020, with Lukaku’s fee set to rise to around £98m.
With a domino effect, the Belgian’s return to English football could see Manchester United outcast Anthony Martial head out of Old Trafford.
According to The Mirror, the Italian club want to take Lukaku’s former teammate on loan for the season despite their massive windfall from the 28-year-old’s sale, after seeing Lautaro Martinez reject a move to Tottenham.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will agree if the Italian giants accept their demand that an obligation to buy must be included in any arrangement.
United are keen to recoup most of the £50million they paid Monaco to sign Martial six years ago.
Inter failed with a previous attempt to sign Martial in 2019 but, with the 25-year-old falling out of favour and missing Euro 2020, he may jump at the chance for a fresh start.
